Playworks Metro Boston is maximizing recess to bring safe, meaningful play to 14,000 students in 32 elementary schools across the Metro Boston area. Playworks Metro Boston is part of a national non-profit organization that's rescuing recess every day. Playworks supports classroom teaching and learning in Boston by providing safe, healthy, and inclusive play and physical activity to schools at recess and throughout the entire school day. No other organization matches our experience transforming play and recess into tools to support learning. Research shows that play is essential to child development and an invaluable tool for improving school climate. Playworks’ success in Boston public schools demonstrates how high quality recess helps children return to the classroom focused and ready to learn.

    Brown Brothers Harriman, Junior Coaches Collaborate for Success

    Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) and Playworks recently teamed up to train twelve junior coaches from the Josiah Quincy Elementary School in collaborative leadership. The interactive 2-hour workshop, "Collaborating for Success", was developed by a working group of BBH volunteers and the Playworks leadership team to teach 5th grade junior coaches valuable lessons about collaboration their leadership role at recess.     Keith Parnell Named Metro Boston Coach of the Month

    Coach Keith Pernell is a second year Program Coordinator at the Boston Renaissance Charter Public School (BRCPS) in the heart of Hyde Park. Over the past two years Keith has assembled incredibly successful girls’ basketball leagues, much to the chagrin of the spectating BRCPS boys. “While I had a discussion about the unequal opportunities for girls and boys to play organized sports they still wanted something to call their own”, said Keith.
